What Bait Would You Guys Say Target Big Fish?

Featured Replies

My 3 largest fish came on three different lures.

Largest came on a jig

Second-largest on a squarebill crankbait.

Third-largest on a hollow body popping frog.

I agree with what has been said by others already , you have to be at the right place at the right time.

And hopefully there are large bass in that particular water you are fishing.

My friend has caught 1 pounders on 9" swimbaits. I would say as a whole though, bigger swimbaits, jigs and BIG plastics catch more big bass than other lures consistently. Then again, yesterday my three biggest bass, modest two pounders, came on a 4" senko, a 4" centipede, and a Dt6, all fairly small baits. Bigger baits caught fish too but smaller ones.

A big bait always doesn't equal big fish.  I have caught big large mouth on rooster tails. But overall if I had to pick a bait that I would catch larger bass, I would say the 6in or larger senkos.

Using 7" worms in Florida catch 5, 7 10 pd Bass all the time... Generally when using a live mule ear shiner..... You can catch 3 to 12 pd bass... Not really able to decide on size of fish to eat the bait... You never can tell,...only bed fishing will you know size of female!

Question #1: False

Question #2: None

While I agree with what Matt wrote swim baits down here will not catch a cold, why? Can not tell you!

What I can tell you from my limited experience is it's location 99.95% of the time.

There are guys in the swimbait world catching them anywhere bass live. Texas is not the exception.

Pretty hard to beat a jig or a T-rigged 7" crawler, maybe because these lures work so good in heavy cover,,,,seem's to be where I catch the majority of my biggest Largemouth as well as most of my Largemouth. both my PB Smally and my LM both came on tiny baits, the Largemouth fishing for Crappie in the Spring with a Mepp's Spinner, and the Smallmouth came while fishing for Perch,,,,,,,location, location, location. Everyone knows that size matters, only applies to the results!! :thumbsup1:

8 of my top 10 have came from the same 9 acre farm lake. The biggest one being a >7 lber caught on a bladed swim jig. The run down of the others is 2  more on the same bladed jig 2 on a flipping jig and the other 3 from that lake on a square bill. So I guess I'm in the "location being most important" camp.
