Tagging Bass In A Small Area

Featured Replies

what is the best way to tag a bass? can you just use zip ties or is that a bad idea? I dont need to track them just to see how often i am catching the same bass. thanks

If its a small pond with not to many largemouth just try to remember certain features on bass, maybe take pictures of every bass you catch at the same angle.

That would be faster than tagging and you could just compare pictures to see if its the same bass

Here is a couple videos that I posted on You Tube on how I tag the bass in my pond (1.5 acre) for tracking and growth rate. We have tagged 45 to date and plan to stop at 50. After that they will all be returned if caught after gathering length and weight. This helps us determine how much weight per acre we will need to take out of the pond each year. If we seem to catch the same tagged fish all the time then we know our population levels are in check. However if all we seem to catch are untagged small bass (ie less than 14 inches) than we need to thin the heard.

Hope they help.
