How Do You Retrieve A Baby Brush Hog?

Featured Replies

Exactly that, how do you retrieve it? Thanks!

I fish them a lot, and I will fish them on a variety of rigs (Texas, Carolina, Shaky, Split Shot, etc...), although most frequently I'll Texas Rig them with a 1/8 or 3/16 oz. weight. In that case I'll hop them, drag them, or flip them into cover and twitch them. Even if I am hopping them like a lot of people fish a jig, I like to pause between hops and twitch them. I also like to fish them on grass lines, throw them just into the grass and kind of rip it out and let it set.

Small hops or drag them. Sometimes one retrieve works way better than the other. I like a T rig for the hopping retrieve, C rig or swinging football head for the dragging retrieve.

I only really fish them on a C-rig or as a bigger jig trailer, just dragging em' along

Thanks, man! I'm in SoCal.

Can't add much to what has already been said.  I would say the majority of my use is the drag and hop.  Normally I will cast it out and just let it sit(longer than I do with most baits).  Then I will slowly hop and drop it back in.  I like to run it weightless so, up until an upgrade in spinning gear, I could never cast them far.  Nonetheless, they have produced more fish for me than any other plastic. I gave the regular brush hogs a shot, thinking the added size could help me cast them longer, but I wasn't a big fan of the action and went right back to the smaller ones.

I pitch them to the target and let them hit the bottom. Most strikes come on the first fall or the next hop. I'll hop them a few times away from the cover, then reel in for another pitch. But they also are great on a carolina rig or on any horizontal retrieve across the bottom.

When flipping I drop in pockets, if nothing hits on fall I hop it twice, wait 3 seconds, if nothing hits again, I pull it up and into next pocket it goes. Ive never casted them out before.

All of the above also don't forget to try them on a shakey head. Money.
