El Captitan lake in SoCal was thee scene of a boating accident where 2 young anglers fishing list their lives.

A speeding bass in a no wake zone broad sided a boat with 2 twenty year old anglers killing them, the bass boaters survived. There is a fund to support the young anglers.

PS, see ad fishing.com for details.

What is an Alber?

Hope somebody has good insurance with high limits.

Bad scene.  Not necessary. Too many fools operating boats on the waters these days.

Wife understands why I don't fish on weekends unless I am in a tournament.

Sad situation. But good lesson for all of us.

Tragic news that hits home for many of us. Thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those young anglers.

My first thought, without knowing any specifics, was that alcohol or drugs were a contributing factor.  There are states that are pushing legislation for boating laws similar to those for driving under the influence and tragedies like this only fuel that fire.  It will become painstakingly familiar to pushes for more gun control legislation after shooting incidents.  It's a shame a few misguided or irresponsible individuals can taint our reputations as sportsmen and a tragedy that lives are lost in the process.

Sorry to hear this.  What a shame.

I hate hearing these story's , however, there are also mega numbers of story's similar involving a single boat/ fishing, every year.

It's just always so sad.

There is no reason for that....none!

Why is it so hard to not leave a wake in the no wake zone? Ive almost been ran over twice because of idiots like that.

Rip bass kids...

Punctuation is key to understanding what you are talking about. Are you saying that states are pushing for BUI laws? What states do not have that already? Louisiana probably, and texas maybe? I know Illinois has it, actually transfers over to your drivers license if you get a BUI arrest. IA, IL, MN, WI, all have it, but that is all i am familiar with.

Or did you mean "There are states that are pushing legislation for boating laws similar to those for driving*COMMA* under the influence and tragedies like this only fuel that fire"

Two totally different points....

I think most people would not experience any difficulty reading and understanding papajoe's post. His post was actually more gramatically correct than yours.

Please use proper grammar and punctuation if you are going to TRY to be the grammar police in the future. Without it, it makes you look ignorant and arrogant.

California doesn't require a boating safety course for fresh water waterways or a boaters driver license, strange with all the regulation our state has. Operating a boat under the influence is illegal in California, you don't need a license to drive the boat.

The accident, a stretch to call this a accident, happened do to reckless disregard to human life and the Ranger boat driver should be prosecuted to the fullest degree allowable and be liable for those two young men loosing the lives. This accident gives bass anglers a bad image and bass anglers everywhere should take a moment a reflect on how we operate our high speed bass boats and prey for the families loss of their sons doing what we all love, a day on the water fishing.

Boater should be charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter

Very unfortunate. People should be educated better on how to safely operate a watercraft.

That's sad, life's not fair. At least they died doing what they enjoyed. RIP fellow anglers.

Guys I'm sorry but what is a wake?

1.  Wake - To arouse someone from slumber.

2.  Wake - A vigil held for someone who has died.

3. Wake - The wave produced at the stern of a boat as it passes.

If you are on the water and see a sign that says "No Wake Zone," it could mean one or more of the following:

1.  You are to be very quiet, so as not to awaken anyone.

2.  No funerals are to be held in the area.

3.  You must keep your boat to a speed that will generate no waves which could damage boats moored in the area.  This is generally considered to be idle speed.

I'll let you be the judge.  :eyebrows:

No wake is usually 5 mph & under.

The young men that died were Russell Mendez ago 20 and Jeffery Ingram age 21.

No Wake Zone is posted on a large buoy with a sign that reads No Wake Zone. If you don't know what that means you shouldn't be operating a boat.

I can't believe anyone could be so disrespectful to these 2 young men to make fun of this.

I don't think Sparky241, meant any disrespect. He may honestly be a non-boater not familiar with boating definitions and/or rules. It is a tragedy and senseless loss of human life that occurred on that waterway. The statement was brought up that more education is needed. I respectfully disagree with that statement. I feel there should be more law enforcement and the irresponsible S.O.B. that was driving that boat should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Anyone who clearly disobeys visible markers that clearly say "No Wake Zone" clearly knows what they are doing. You have to be completely ignorant to be speeding through an area while everyone else around you is idling by.

I once saw a boat go into the rocks on the Oregon coast. I was in another boat quite close but there was absolutely nothing we could do. In this case there was a severe storm making life difficult for us all that day (I was twelve at the time).

The folks ripping around in a no wake zone didn't respect the water and they sure didn't respect the rules of the water. The rules are there for everyone's safety. This is truly sad. As much as I hate hearing these stories I think they remind us all to be safe out there.
