I Want To Learn To Pour Plastics

Featured Replies

The bass fishing bug has bitten me especially hard this year, and the Ohio fishing season is drawing to a close here in the coming months. :'(   I think a good way to combat this lack of fishing is by doing something else fishing related, so I would love to learn to pour my own plastics, mainly senkos.

I would first like to find a great book or publication about the subject, so if you know of one please let me know.

Then, I would also like to know of a good way to approach this task.  Let me know the best direction whether its a starter kit, or something else.

I appreciate the comments!

OSU:

I'm in the same boat, just now getting into the pouring game.  I believe I've seen books on either tackleunderground or delmart molds.  In any case these websites have a lot of info on their forums.

Just made a plaster 4-cavity senko mold a few days ago and it's still drying out.  Using a plaster mold so I can try out the hand-pour game without investing a lot up front.  I should be able to pour about 100 baits for 30 bucks or so and then make a decision about continuing with the program.  Good luck on your project and keep us posted on the results.

i just started with handpouring and a book would have been helpful.  fortunately their are lots of helpful folks on this and the TU forum.  those are prob. your best sources.  also if you are makinga plaster of paris mold then it should only take like 20 min to dry if it was mixed properly.

There is an E-book that you can download online.  It is done by Craig Defronzo.  I have been thinking of getting it even though I have been pouring baits for years.  It is always nice to see other peoples techniques.  Craig makes some awesome baits, and has extensive knowledge on the subject.  Go to ebay and do a search on hand pours, you will find it there.

Thanks WCCT-

If you guys are interested in the eBooks I have, I will honor the eBay prices for Bass Resource members. Just memntion that when you inquire. The books are available in PDF format for both Mac and PC.

Currently I have:

Hand Pouring 101 -How to Hand Pour

Hand Pouring 102- Advanced Pouring

I'm about finished with the newest book in the series which is The Hand Pourers Bible. It is a compilation that includes both of the above books plus Hand Pouring 103 -Creating Artwork. This book will be 27.99.

All of the books offer complete tutorials from basic pouring to moldmaking to doing laminates, firetails, multi colored pours etc. There are recipes also included for a ton of colors, business advice etc. Honestly, these books are going to help anyone avoid making common mistakes.

Thanks a lot guys, I took a look at earthworm77's site and I am VERY interested in buying the Hand Pouring 101 ebook very soon.  I hope to get into actually making my own plastics by the end of October.

I'm definitely one of those guys that likes to research and research some more before I dive head first into anything.  Pair that long with my personality of going big or going home and I'm thinking I might have a great time making these baits.  I am joining a Bass Fishing club here at Ohio State University, so who knows,.... maybe I'll start selling these plastics because I sure miss owning my own small business.

This is all very exciting to me and any extra advice on what type of molds/plastic/colors/etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

well guys, it doesn't look like the lure-making is going to happen this year :'(

The roomate I was supposed to have for this year backed out, so now I'm stuck with a 2br Apartment with $595 rent plus $200/mo. utilities/cable/internet/etc.   :-/

I'm still for sure going to buy the ebook you guys told me about, and I'm going to try and learn a lot, and maybe by summer, or possibly this time next year, I'll be ready to start making some things.  I really appreciate the advice though, and I am looking forward to reading the eBook.

Thanks!

Jason

I bought Handpouring 101 on ebay and it is an excellent resource to get you started. If you are going to hand pour, it is the best money you will spend.
