Help With The Delta

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'll be heading to Stockton and fishing the Delta with my Bass Club. Has anyone fished there recently or have any tips on how to fish.  I am a co-angler so 5 rods max.

Thanks

Whe tide is up the bass tuck in to the tules and face out, when tide is low they pull out and into the drop offs and face towards the tules to catch something falling off the ledge. Green colored Senkos rigged weedless and crank baits. If there are thick mats then a frog or punching thru the mats with one oz or so jig.

I'm up there every week. They wouldn't hit topwater for me or reaction for the last 3 trips. They've been hitting baits with a slower presentation like flipping.

If you or your partner are not familiar with the delta you will be lost!

My suggestion, contact Andy "Cooch" Cuccia, hire him for a day and get years of experience. Cooch will help you as to what area to fish this massive river system.

Old topic but I forget we have a Western board here...
If you go for a guide (in the future)  Bobby Barrack is who I would recommend going with.

As far as baits, for 5 rods...  I throw a lot of topwater on the Delta... buzzbait, frog are the main two.  Black and white as far as colors go not much more needed.  A heavy flip or punching rod whatever you want to call it...  3/4-1.5oz weight, your favorite plastic and a skirt if ya want.  A rod for senkos/dropshot, and a rod for a squarebill crankbait.

Hope your event hasn't passed and good luck.

Did really well, and I caught the biggest fish of the year for the club with only one tourney to go.  Caught countless shorties but I limited the first day and  took thee the second day.  I caught a 6.4 on pre fish  tossing a frog but the ticket for the trip was throwing Senkos wacky.

That's awesome! Nice fish!  Glad it went well!
