Just Maybe?

Featured Replies

This hasn't happened yet but might and struck me as something worth asking, this is hypothetical but could mind you and me , lets say i'm and going after my targeted fish which is bass and with like my tackle setup as is,being with 8lb test and you cast out there and don't hook the fish which your after but say a 22lb muskie instead, can it be done ? or doubtful . just wondering .

It can absolutely be done, just have to take your time and play the fish and let it take line when it needs to. If you aren't using a wire leader, you better hope your line doesn't touch that muskies teeth!

Not sure I quite understand what you're asking, but if I'm interpreting your question correctly, then yes, it can be done. I was in a tournament a few years ago and we got to one of our money spots early on since we wanted to get a good topwater bite to start off....nothing for an hour. It's really weird since it was a nice bay away adjacent to deeper water and the main river. It was loaded with weeds and timber but had some nice pockets in there too.

We got our answer when a 17lb muskie nailed my popper on a M spinning rod with 10lb test. I was lucky enough that early on in the fight, the fish managed to get all but one hook out and the lure (and most importantly, the line!) was not in his mouth. Took me about 10 mins to land and felt like a whole morning wasted since we didn't get any fish from our key spot. Made up for it in the afternoon though and placed in the money.

Dude I hooked a 30 lb carp with a UL rod and 6 lb test, how do I know it was 30 lbs ? cuz I weighted and wouldn´t have been able to weight it if I hadn´t landed it. Took me a while to land it, chased it for half the lake on the boat with the TM but ------> it´s all in the wrist. :eyebrows:

Yes. It can be done.

Of course the teeth could have a say in you landing the fish.

It happens all the time. Guys land big muskies while fishing for crappies with a minnow and a bobber. A lot more guys get bit off than land them, but it happens a lot. There was a picture on some Muskie boards a couple of years ago of a 55 inch Muskie that probably weighed 40 pounds caught by a walleye fisherman.

It can absolutely be done, just have to take your time and play the fish and let it take line when it needs to. If you aren't using a wire leader, you better hope your line doesn't touch that muskies teeth!

What he said, do NOT try to horse the fish in.

sure it can be done.  I landed 20+ lb carp on 4lb leader on my fly rod on a few occasions

I caught a 40" inch muskie on 6lb test this spring and a 34" muskie on 10lb test. It can be done.

I landed a 39 inch Northern while drop shotting for Walleye with 6 lb test line. No Idea how because the line was in the Northern's mouth. Years of clean living I guess.

I boated an 8ft nurse shark on20# braid and a 15# leader with shimano stradic 4000 fi on a 7'ft croix tidemaster M once...so yes it can be done...it took my an hour on that nurse shark lol
