I picked up a Rapala Skitter-Pop yesterday at GanderMountain in the lime frog color. What's the best way to work this? 

 

Will it walk the dog like other poppers? I've read that it is different than other poppers.

 

Information would be great! 

Not sure about walking...but they pop on pretty much every twitch which i like

Yea, great baits... Balsa, more of a blurp, than say a chug type sound... I like em!

So how do you retrieve? Is it a quicker retrieve? Popping the whole way back one after another or is it more of a...pop pop pop rest. then start up again? 

Cadence can vary, it just depends, but it's a popping bait, not a walking bait, you need to experiment to see, hear it at work.

I like to retrieve the Skitter Pop with very soft twitches this time of year. It makes a very light pop sound that sounds a lot like a bluegill pecking at bugs on the surface, which they do a lot in the fall when there's tons of bugs for them to eat. 

As with any lure there are a variety of ways to work them, none of them exclusively right or exclusively wrong.  I can't say how I work any lure, it just happens on my own instinct at that particular time.  I'm always working a lure and it varies, sometimes within the same cast.  I would say don't be mechanical and do what comes natural.

Just work it different ways, as SirSnookalot said, I also vary my timing and working the pole even in the same cast... just depends.. I was on the river Sunday using a spook and pop-r, dog walking the spook pausing for a moment and repeating, everytime was different. The same with the pop-r, I would dog walk at times and others I would just pop it a number of times pause and go again, all depends how good your popper dog walks.. either way it makes those fish go crazy! They cant resist that noise and vibration! Good luck to ya!

The skitterpop walks as good or better than just about any other popper. I use 10 pound test mono with them. With a little slack in the line they make a perfect, subtle little "blurp". My favorite popper of all time and I can't tell you how many bass have fallen victim to it.

Perfect, I use 10lb strenn mono too. That's good to hear! 

Skitter Pop's are my favorite popper out there. The size 9 in frog and lime frog are my go to's. You can work them any way you want. They do not walk, they just spit. Light twitch, heavy twitch, it works great. I usually stop every few twitches and let it sit. I would definitely say that the skitter pop has a quieter pop than any other popper out there, which is why I think its so effective. Its subtle, but it gets the job done very well. 

One other thing to add here. I have tried poppers on a variety of rods and I keep going back to a 6 ft 6 in. med with a fast to moderate fast tip. I like how that rod loads up on the fish so I don't yank the popper out of the fish's mouth. You can get away with using braid if you have the right flex. Up here the Northern Pike kind of make it a necessity to use braid.

 

When I tried a MH with braid, I kept pulling it away from the fish. I can't help it, those top water strikes are exciting!!
