The fish throw you another curveball!

Here's what happened to me today...

Post cold front. Clear blue skies. No wind, I mean NONE! Clear water (5-7ft visibility). Full moon the night before today's tournament. Most think that you would need to fish slow, I know that was our thought. We did ok in spite of just about the toughest bite possible. Drop shot, slow dragging a jig in 18-20ft of water, and in midday, flipping docks with slop and heavy mats around them produced best for us. One 4.5 pounder (big bass award) and a bunch of dinks.

We weren't even in the ballpark.

The winning team culled ten fish and weighed over 15 pounds of bass...burning swimbaits over suspended bass in 40 feet of water!

How the heck do you know to try THAT method.

I definitely learned something today.

That's what I call 'Taco Bell thinking'. Either that or desperation. More than likely they'd use that presentation before. Did anyone else come close to their total, or we're most in the same boat as you? (Figuratively)

My buddy has a way of fishing when things get a little tough that makes me laugh.  He calls it his doughnut pattern.    He says "  It is just like a box of doughnuts, there is always one left and no one takes it initially, but put it in front of them and leave it there long enough someone will always eat it."    I guess it is just his way of saying stop changing baits so much and  throw what your confident in, eventually you will put it in front of one long enough and get bit.

Had the same happen to me many times.

You throw everything you have at em, you try different baits, colors, retrieves, locations, depths. You think you've done all you can to grind out a small limit and you're convinced everyone else is struggling too, so as you head to the ramp thinking you have a chance.

But when you get to weigh in you find out you're near the bottom of the board and the leader weighs in a sack that's 3 times yours.

You find out that he used 1 bait all day and never put it down.

Makes you want scream!

Second place was a little over ten pounds.

If we could have just weighed five fish we would have been in the money. I thought they were BSing me about their day, but other guys saw them cranking like crazy and catching fish which confirmed it for me.

Head scratcher for sure.
