Terminator Type Skirts

Featured Replies

I'm wanting to make some skirts that are similar to Terminators.  It appears to me that they just wrap and glue the skirt around a rubber collar that is flared on one end.  I've looked through Barlow's and Stamina's catalogs and the only thing I've found that is close is a skirt umbrella in Barlow's catalog (which I don't think is the same thing).

Anyone got any suggestions or know where I need to look?

Thanks

I've looked for the same type skirts before and have had little sucess. I finally  borke down and purschased Terminator Skirts themselves. My local BPS has them in a 3 pack for around $2 -$3 dollars depending on colors and styles. I recently lucked out at my local Wal-Mart and found a whole bunch on clearance. Only $.50 for a 2 pack. Bought all they had.

Good Luck

I've called both Stamina and Barlow's looking for something that will work.  They neither one had anything (one of the guys I talked to wasn't even sure what a Terminator skirt looked like).  I ended up ordering some skirt umbrella's (which are designed for banded skirts) and thought I'd try to make those work.

I've got the Terminator catalog - they have a nice selection of skirts (27 different colors) but aren't cheap at 2 for $3.99 (plus $5-7 shipping).  I've never found a real big color selection at any Bass Pro or tackle shop locally.  Sounds like you found a really good deal!!

I might try to find some plastic tubing with an inside diameter big enough to slide over my hook and do some experimenting (maybe attempt to heat and flare one end).

Aren't those skirts similar to what Strike King uses on their spinner baits? They look almost identical.

Not sure.  They just look pretty cool.

If it is to be had then I'm positive that Barlow's would have it. The skirt material is what it is. Their are different ways of mounting it on the spinner. One way is just the skirt held together with a skirt collar (cheapest and easiest way). The other way is the umbrella skirt which adds more of a "poodle skirt " type "poofyness" to the outer part of the skirt.

I built 100 of my own spinnerbaits and it was a lot of work and  so so as far as cost effective ( not even counting labor). The shipping can kill your pricing and Barlows had the best pricing hands down in my opinion.

I would e-mail Barlow's with what you are looking for and I bet they will set you straight. Note re skirt collars I highly recommend their skirt collor tool ( basicaly an aroow and field point). It makes life MUCH easier for 4 or $5. As far as special pliers for the collars you can use needle nose fine.

In the future I will just buy Walmart $1 spinning lures and just replace the skirts with the colors that I want. I've done that quite a bit and it is much less hassle.

Hey guys couldnt help but see you were looking for 'Terminator Type SpinnerBait Skirts'. I found a great seller on ebay selling just that, knock off 'Terminator Type SpinnerBait Skirts' granted his colors are quite limited. I ordered 3-4 colors from him in Bulk wholesale auctions. I think I paid $23 for 100 Chartruesse Skirts. I looked and he doesnt have any skirts for sale at the moment. You could message him and see what he might have or keep his seller ID and look back periodically. http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZbeachesarefreeQQhtZ-1

I haven't had much luck in finding anything to make my own skirts like Terminators.  I haven't been able to find much in the way of tubing.  I've modified some of the coneheads that places like Barlows and Netcraft sell.  I haven't been able to get the skirt to stick real well (I've tried epoxy and another all purpose glue).

Holding it all together and in place (without squeezing the tube) was the problem with epoxy (and waiting for it to set).  I tried slipping the tube over a dowel rod and then clamping it - but that didn't work (clamp deformed the tube and moved the skirt).

Wal-Mart has a glue in the craft section for plastic and rubber.  I might try some of that eventually as well.

I talked to Netcraft and the guy I talked to wasn't real sure how the Z-man skirts were made.  He thought it might be with some type of plastic rivot - but he said he hadn't gotten the chance to look.  He said that those had moved fast though and they just got a new shipment of them in.

Do a web search on "plastic pop rivets" I bet you will find what you want. Also there was a website I think the company was called rattrap skirts that sold skirts like those and I am thinking they also sold the rivets. I am not sure if the company had been sold and changed the name or not but that will give you a direction anyways.

*I tried to look up the rattrap place and couldn't find it I think it might be closed.

The key to the air alive skirt from terminator is the way the bands of rubber have notches.  Keeps the skirt from sticking to itself and gives it a great bellow.  I love these skirts but even still, I thin the heck out of them and they are a pretty sparse skirt to begin with.

Good luck.
