Ranger 374V Opinions And Thoughts.

A guy down the street and who's a relative of a good friend has a 1988 Ranger 374V with a 150 Mercury XR4 Black Max for sale. $3500 obo.

This boat is basically showroom new, the cover is even included and still shiny. The boat has 3 new batteries, tires on the trailer fuel lines and impeller. Any thoughts on this hull/boat? Any things to look out for?

Those old carb Mercs hate cold mornings. 300 series Rangers are GREAT boats. For that kind of money, check every function on the boat, get a comp. test and bill of health from a mechanic. Take it for a test drive.

My friend took it out and said it ran perfect. Assuming it all checks out is that a good price (I can probably get it much closer to 3K).

Great boat, with a so-so motor.  Price sounds decent for what you've described.

Definitely have the motor gone over.  As far as the boat goes, the only bad thing I remember about my 300 series was those darn shut off / recirculating valves.  The thin membrane would dry out and warp which would cause the water level to drop slowly.  And they were a real pain to get to.

Post some pics if you pull the trigger on it.

They are great boats. The XR4 is an OK motor but has mentioned they don't like the cold. If it doesn't already have one, buy or build yourself a deck extension. At $3K it should be worth it if everything checks out.

I sold my 92 482v with 150 xr2 for $5500 and the guy never even tried to dicker with me. Can't go wrong with that boat for that price.

At $3000 to $3500 you can't lose based on your description.

Definitely a good buy. The 300 series Ranger hulls are great. I just sold my 86 320V (15'10") in very good shape for $4,000 so for $3500 if it's in the shape you say is a good buy.
