By "whip finisher", do you mean the thread used to tie them?  If so, I use a bead of 2-ton epoxy (Devcon) smeared around the thread when I tie feathered hooks.

Nice looking jigs by the way!

The whip finisher is a tool that helps tie a seires of knots. Its a pain to figure out.

Thanks for the clarification, jigfisherman.  BTW, I love your lakes down there  (Wlison, Wheeler, Pickwick).

wanna know how I use a whip finisher....

first you open your window, Next chuck that badboy as far as you can, lastly never look back.  I tie a series of half hitches instead.  I'm left handed and had an old timer try to show me how to use the whip finisher upside down backwards crooked style, and he ended up saying to me, look I can't do this with you anymore.  It was quite comical.  Maybe I'm just not good at following instructions, but when I looked at the instructions on that thing it made me want to jump off a bridge.

Those are sweet!  The spots and smallies are gonna destroy those things.  How did you tie with the weedgaurd on there?  Must have taken awhile.  I have tried tying with it on, and its a PAIN.

If he pours his own jigs, he could be epoxy'n them in after tying.  That'd be what I do.

Great looking jigs! I don't know how you would use a whip finiher around those weed guards, unless you are glueing the guards on afterward. It's only tricky to tie whip finish knot at first, with a little practice its a breeze. JMHO

I tie before I put the weedgaurd in. I figured out the whip finisher and now its a breeze.

Those are some great lookin jigs, what material did you tie em with?

I use deer hair on them, but I am fixing to get some artic fox hair a guy I work with says its alot easier to tie with.

I have custom tied many jigs/spinnerbaits.  I agree throw the whip tool out the window.  If you are using a half hitch remember to bury the thread under the end wrappings.  It may take extra time but the weed guard doesn't interfere, that much, if you have patience (something my kids taught me).  You can use a small noose and lead weights to hold the guard out of your way while tying.  Or modify your vice with a hold down for the end of the noose.

I enjoy re-furbishing with hair on these lures and add custom colors to match bait fish/crawdads.  I have even done this with Buzzbaits and have had great success, especially in a perch pattern....
