I'm In Trouble Now

Just got a Daiwa SS SV. Used, but doesn't look like it.

5.3 ounces, hedgehog air bearings, smooth as your baby's bottom, quiet as a church mouse.

Spooled,it with #8 supernatural and mounted it on a 7' ML Kistler Helium LTA.

Was casting and pitching a bare 1/8oz jighead with no problems.

I have five Alphas. I hope this thing doesn't turn them into the red-headed stepchildren of my reel collection. I'm in reel trouble if that happens.

Oooooooh.  Nice.  Congratulations.  I love my Alphas reels.  Can't imagine how much better the SS SV must be.  Haven't looked at the SS SV, but bet they are above my budget.  Must avoid looking.  Must avoid looking.  Must avoid........

I got one for 245 shipped brand new with crumpled manual. Really enjoying it so far  throwing 1/4 oz to 3/8 oz cranks with 10 pound Toray Super Hard Strong. I haven't upgraded to Kattobi Air but will do soon!

I'm just about finished building my rod building / reel tuning bench at my cabin. When It's done, I'll take some pics and post the Team Daiwa starting lineup. I'll put the SS SV front and center, because I think it's going to prove to be the best reel I have.

I know you weren't, but not Mr iabass8 xD. Even if you buy them at the MSRP, I find this reel extremely hard to beat. Only thing I don't like about it is the length of the handle and the knob.

I actually prefer a shorter handle. 80mm is just about right for me. I'd like to try a 70mm sometime.

Im not skeptical. I believe that one went over yoyr head.

Sick reel though.

been hearing great things about diawa tatula

The SS SV is definitely on my radar as the next Daiwa to add to my arsenal, but the old model zillion being at the price they are now has pushed the SS SV down the list a little.

NO.

I have reels that had 70 mm handles, my Scorpions 1000 and 1000 Mg had the 70 mm handle, I had them upgraded for longer ones, the Scorp 1000 got a Chronarch B handle, the Scorps Mg got  Chronarch 50 Mg handles. 80 mm is really fine length.

I keep thinking I want to try a 70mm handle. But I just can't quite pull the trigger. I have all Daiwa baitcasters, and have 80mm TD-Z handles on most of them. A shorter handle equates to a lot less wrist movement when working baits.

I know the common thinking is to use a longer handle for more "power". I'm 6'1", 270lbs. Lack of power is not an issue. Besides, I know how to properly use rod and drag to subdue the fish.
