I'm going to stock up on jigs and place a massive order on jig heads and skirts. I was wondering, how dense is a 40 strand skirt? About average? How about 60 strands?

I like a thick skirt and 40 strands just dont get it with me. Not sure about those Snootie jigs though....never tried them.

I knew a dense skirt once.

But it was politically incorrect.

Matt, you should be fine with the 40 strand skirt. As far as density i would just worry about size

3/8 ounce, 1/2 ounce etc...and if you need a slower fall, add a bulkier trailer

They average skirt on a factory jig or spinnerbait is between 40-50 strands. If you are using the standard silicone skirt tabs form Jann's etc. they are about 22 strands per tab. On clear water baits I use 2 tabs, stained 2 and a 1/2, 3 for muddy water and the most I have ever used was 4 tabs but they had trouble fitting into the skirt collar.
