 I have some experience fishing the carolina rig but I have yet to try the mojo rig. I was curious as to what scenarios one would want to use the mojo rig instead of the carolina rig? The two things that come to mind is on the mojo you can rapidly change how much line you leave behind the weight and those mojo weights looks like they would probably come through grass even better than a bullet weight.

 

 Anything I am missing? Is it more a question of the mojo works better with lighter presentations?

Not sure how they're 'supposed' to be worked, or designed, but I only use 1/8 mojo weights and generally don't even get bottom contact.  I use them for lightweight worms and sometimes with flukes to get 12-24" below surface, but generally moving the bait.  They do come through grass and other weeds very well.   

   Alternatively, I use Carolina rig to maintain 100% bottom contact - with or without constant lateral movement.

The best way to look at it is based on conditions.  If bottom contact is your need then either would suffice as long as you can successfully achieve bottom contact.  Where the Mojo rig differs for me is when I want a bait working through grass.  The lighter weight allows it to work through the weeds easier than a Mojo rig.

 

IMO the Mojo is finesse and relatively shallow - light line, lighter weight, light wire hooks and finesse baits.  Finesse worms for example.  Heaviest I would throw on a Mojo is 1/4oz

 

Carolina is for deeper waters or solid bottom contact - bigger baits, bigger line, bigger hooks, bigger weight etc. - 7" - 10" Power Worm for example.  Lightest I would throw on a Carolina is 1/2 oz.

I think of the Mojo Rig as a more weedless splitshot rig. The splitshot has the tabs that snags EVERYTHING!

Carolina rig is more a search rig for deeper water in more open water type structure. The mojo rig is best when the bite is real tough and there is a lot of grass around, it's more of a spinning reel tactic.

Heaviest I would throw on a Mojo is 1/4oz

Lightest I would throw on a Carolina is 1/2 oz.

And therefore using a 3/8oz weight would make it a Mojolina rig...

And therefore using a 3/8oz weight would make it a Mojolina rig...
