Is anyone using these things in Florida?  I'm looking at these Mattlures bluegills thinking...  "man, I'm pretty sure that watermelon jig/trailer is probably imitating a bluegill, why not try using this thing?"

I guess I've always figured they were a west coast thing.  Anyone?

I fish the storm swimbaits (call me cheap).  I have landed a few smaller fish on the suspending model.  Randall and Lightningrod have success on the Mattlures in GA!  I will be placing an order in the very near future!  

I ordered two Mattlures yesterday... 1 male bluegill and 1 crappie. I'm from PA and I think some of our larger northern strains will eat them, so I don't see why they wouldn't work on your monsters in FL...

Randall just caught a 15#er on a matts bluegill out of varner this past sat.

Sure they'll work in Florida!  Just don't give up if you don't get bit right away.  The first "swimbait" Bass is usually the hardest to catch. 8-)

Think I'll try the mattlures ultimate bluegill.  What color would you guys use in Central FL?

I caught a 6 lb chain pickerel and 0 bass on the baby bass  8-) I have the female bluegill also but haven't tried it yet......

I use swimbaits more and more.

check the "outings" forum.  I caught  a 6 lber on a mattlures baby bass so they definitly work.

I don't like those storm things.  they look like they were made by Walt Disney.

An excellent swimbait for florida is the 3:16 mission fish.  These can be rigged weedless, which as I'm sure you already know is a major factor we have to deal with.

I have caught nice bass on the mission fish, so buy with confidence.

I used the mattlures baby bluegill a few times but unfortunately It broke off on a backlash cast after only a few tries.

My suggestion would be the male - that orange belly is a trigger IMHO.

Yeah, my only concern would be about all the underwater vegetation here in Florida. But if it can be rigged weedless, all the better.
