Grinding Or Clicking Noise On New Reel

Featured Replies

Hey guys just got my new MGXtreme reel today and went out fishing and about 1hr into fishing the reel started to make a dull click or grinding noise. I thought that was odd and it seemed to make the noise at the same part of the rotation every time. I thought maybe something somehow got lodged into the gears so, I made a few hard casts to maybe shake something out. I stopped after a few casts and did not come back. I have no idea what was causing this. Has this ever happened to you guys with a new reel? I might have it cleaned and what not to make sure something isnt lodged or there is no build up of reel oil in there.

Did you you check the spool retention screw on the top right side of the reel. That screw is what allows you to expose and remove the the spool or access the brakes. I have found, when I use to have the Revo S, that when that screw became loose my reel would make the noises and performed the way you described. The screw will not fall out. It's a spring screw, however when its loose it causes the spool to be loose as well. That might do the trick. Good luck

Yeah i made sure to tighten that back up. Not sure if that was the problem though ill check tomorrow when I go out again.I kinda suck with baitcaster anatomy lol the spool retention screw would be the silver screw with the metal bar going across the reel?

Alright thanks for the advice, I took a swab to the gears to pick up excess oil and relubed and it seems to have solved the issue.
