Smallmouth Elite Techs

Featured Replies

After hearing several good reviews about this series, I tried to go and find a med lt one, but it appears that they are discontinued or something? Is this true? And if so how does the HMG stack up to it?

Thanks

Yes, they're discontinued. The new series is the "elite tech bass".

As for the HMG, they are great rods as well for the money. I own one in spinning and one in casting. I believe the elite tech series has a little bit better guides on it though.

I have two of the spinning rods and I like them.

A couple of the casting rods are being offered my Fenwick & they are on sale.

Hey thanks guys,

Yeah if the budget weren't so tight and my spinning rod wasn't busted I would definitely jump on that

Apparently, at least from what I've read, their mediums are on the light side so they may work for you.

I'll be pairing in with a 51e for tossing lighter baits.

Try www.Krugerfarms.com I bought a med xfast there a couple of weeks ago and at that time they had some ml's in stock.

The Elite Tech Smallmouth rods are discontinued but if you find one don't be afraid of the medium, I have a 6'9" M-XF and I fish 1/16oz shaky heads with a 4.5" finesse worm and I have no problem casting and it doesn't overpower small fish but it does have the power to deal with a big fish if you run into one. The HMG is a good rod but it weighs a little more than the elite tech, if you get the HMG go with either the 6'9" ML-F or the 7'ML-F, both of those are very nice for what you are looking for.

Can anyone else attest to this. Cause if so that would be great :eyebrows:

How light are you planning to go?  I was out last Saturday throwing a 3/16 oz. Shad Rap on my 6'10" MF Smallmouth and Curado 51E.  Rod is rated down to 1/8 oz., but I don't have the casting skill for that weight.

3/16 is very light for a casting rod. I usually break out my UL rig for anything lighter.

Sorry maybe should've clarified that I looking for the spinning version. But I'll be throwing from about 1/16 and up.

I have two of the Elite Tech Smallmouth series spinning rods. Both are the 6"9 ML models and they are outstanding rods. They excel at everything finesse. I thought about selling one but have decided they will be with me for a long time. For the price I havent found a rod that fishes anywhere close to it. Picked up both from a local sporting goods store several years back for $69 and $79.

I had that idiotic thought too, I quickly changed my mind...In fact I have done a 180 on rods the last two weeks. A finally got my hands on a new Elite Tech Bass, and HMG's and was totally impressed, enough so to want to ditch all my current rods (abu vendetta's and veritas's) for these.

Another great alternative to the Fenwick SM Elite is the Dobyns Savy Series. I have one in a spinner 6'9" ML fast action and I absolutely love that rod.

Sorry about that.  Saw I.rar's post about the 51E and that is where my mind stopped.  :teeth:  See Dan's (smalljaw67) post above.  He has a fair amount of experience with Fenwick rods, and wouldn't steer you wrong.  I bought the same rod (spinning 6'9" M-XF) after his raving about it in a PM.

EDIT:  Just bought the 6'10" MH-MF casting model off Fenwick's website thanks to Dan's recommendation on how versatile this rod is.  Actually I should probably stop talking to him.  Would be cheaper.  :teeth::eyebrows::laugh5:

the smallmouth series are discontinued but i've noticed the retailers that have any left in stock have raised their prices from $119—$129 to $149! i say go for the new fenwick elitetech bass series and get the 6'10" ML/XF. if you're not already a cabela's club visa member, apply for the card and get $25 credit. then, buy the fenwick rod from there and you'll get $30 in cabelas points to use on a future purchase. $8 rod shipping now too with code "4TREAT".

Hey thanks guys, yeah I haven't decided what exactly to do yet, but if all else fails and I cant find the Elite tech I want, it sounds like the HMG is a good rod
