Need Help. Which Rod Is Better Suited For My Needs? G. Loomis Nrx

Featured Replies

I'm looking for the right spinning rod for my needs. It will either be the NRX 842S SJR or the NRX 852S JWR. It will be paired with a Stella 3000HGM. 8lb fluoro. I will be using it for weightless flukes, shakey head, tubes, grubs....mostly weightless flukes.  I am currently using a 6'10" Quantum TE PT Shaw Grigsby spinning rod that has served me extremely well. It is Medium-Fast. I like the size and action so something similar. I have zero experience with ether one so maybe someone can chime in. I'm looking to order tonight so if you can reply quickly that would help.

Thanks

For what you described, i'd like the 822 SYR.

What does the mag-medium rating mean?

Anyone, regarding the mag-medium rating on the NRX 822 SYR?

  • Super User

Bantam described a "mag-medium" as a rod that is in between a medium and a medium heavy. I've only used the 822 a couple times and it fishes much closer to a M than a MH. i wouldn't have any issue saying it was a m powered rod.

Thanks for the response. So in your best estimate, it should be good for what I am looking for? Is the tip too soft?

I personally think the 822 is the the most versatile. Power wise, it will probably be very close to your old rod. The tip, however,it  will be faster. it isn't as fast as a st. croix xf though. the 822 syr 's tip is a tad faster than the 852 from what i've read but i can't say first hand. either one would fit the bill perfect. if you go the route of the 822, get the SYR, not the DSR.

Ok, thanks again. I'm leaning towards the 822S SYR. Its the same size as my current rod and should cover everything I will be using it for.

Take a look at the NRX 923MR Inshore

I have it paired with a certate 2500.

It could be a match made in heaven for what you want.

I went with the NRX 842S SJR. I believe it will be the best all around spinning rod for my multiple techniques. Thank You to everyone that contributed. Cant wait to pair it with the Stella.
