Pros and Cons?

 

Ive been using the Craw bug.  Is there any significnt reason to change to the Craw worm style bait?

What product are you actually looking at? they don't make a "craw worm".

Do you mean the "craw tube" ? I'll assume you mean the tube and I'll give you my take on this. These are quite different baits, the Yum Craw Bug comes in 2 different sizes and looks like a craw, while the LFT Craw Tube is a tube with craw pinchers attached and only comes in a 4" size. I use the Craw Bug is clear water and I use it as more of a finesse bait with an insider type jig head while the Craw Tube is going to be used in stained water Texas rigged and pitched and flipped into and around cover. I think both have a time and place but make no mistake, these aren't baits you can substitute for each other, while both can be used in similar situations, the bug is going to be better in clear water just because it has a realistic profile and it can be downsized while in stained water the tube is going to get through cover better and will accept a larger hook than the 3.5" bug so having both can help your fishing.

Let me see if I can clear up the confusion. The Big Bite Baits "craw worm" was once, not all that long ago, sold by Lake Fork Tackle as the............"Lake Fork Craw Worm". They are the same bait, made by D&J Plastics. NOW.......................the body of the "craw worm" and the YUM craw bug ARE THE SAME!!! Yum just lops the "tail off" and calls it the craw bug. The 3" Big Bite Baits craw worm, and the long discontinued YUM "Baby craw bug" were the EXACT SAME BAIT, tail and all.

Both craws are nearly the exact same, except one has a lengthened tail, and one does not.

Im curious if there are any advantages to having the longer tail? 

you are referring to the "lake fork craw" which is identical to the "big bite baits craw worm".

if you but the "tail" off either of the above craws, you have the same YUM crawbug. The advantage of the tail is that they are much easier to use as a texas rig in my experience. I like to cut almost all the and stuff a small section of worm inside the craw. Nice jig trailer.

If thats all, then I think I'll just stick with the Crawbug.   I can Texas rig that thing just fine.   But I typically make an internal for it, or use it as jig trailer.

 

My internal rig consists of a 3/0 worm hook with 1/4oz twist weight impaled on the offset of the hook. 

Im thinking I might go with Venom Lures Imitation Craw.

 

Its basically the same thing, but Im liking their colors better.
