Braid And What Leader?

Featured Replies

I fish braided line with either a monofilament or flurocarbon leader. What brands of leader do you guys like and what lb test? Thanks

Although this question was asked already a couple of days ago,  I will share my opinion. I use the equivalent diameters of the two lines as my minimum. For example, I use pp braid and Yozuri copoly as my fishing lines. So if I were using 40lb braid the equivalent diameter more or less to that will be 12lb copoly. It may not be exact, but its a general rule of thumb that I have found that will work for my fishing applications.

On my spinning outfit which is the only time I will use a leader, it's 20# braid with a 12# or 15# leader.

I really only throw braid with a fluoro leader on big football jigs and big swimjigs.  I definitely would be doing the same on spinning tackle, but I rarely ever use it.  I use 50-65lb braid with 12-17lb fluoro leader.

Spinning or b/c?  With spinning there is no dig in issue so the mainline doesn't have to be 50# IMO.  For me it boils down to the water I'm fishing, if it's open 10# braid and 10# leader, slop or vegetation I fish 15# braid with 20# leader.  I'm not fussy on brand.

Spinning: 10# braid

Casting: 20# braid

Leaders: Copoly from 6-15 lbs  (Yo-zuri Hybrid or P-Line Floroclear)

Also will use fluorocarbon for leader in 8-12 lb but copoly most of the time.

All subject to fishing needs.

Spinning:  Normally fish 8-10lb FC but will also use 6lb mono with 10lb braid

Baitcasting: Normally fish 12-20lb Mono or 10-20lb FC. with 20-30lb braid.

Swimbaits (8" 3+oz baits) 40-65lb braid with 25lb mono/FC topshots depending on the bait.

On my spinning rod I use 10# Sufix 832 with an 8# Seaguar Abrazx leader.

On my casting rod I use 30# Sufix 832 with a 15# Seaguar Abrazx leader.
