Don't remember what I paid for my 3000 yard spools, but pretty sure it was quite a bit more than that.  I think you should grab a spool.  I've got 12# on several reels and like it so far.  Also have 8# on a couple b/c reels.  Don't use any line conditioner on it.  Last year was my first time using AN40.  Working great so far.  Got to try a small spool of Mean Green.  Lot of people like it.  So many good lines, so little time.  :(

I just figure buy what works for a good price. That's why I've mostly stuck with Trilene for everything that's not contact or frogs. So I think I will go ahead and give the AN40 a try especially for the price.
