Uses Of A 6'6"-7' Medium/ Fast Baitcasting Rod.

Featured Replies

I got a 6'6" Medium/Fast Extreme rod a few weeks ago.  They were only $60 and I had a Lews SS1 I needed a home for.  I have a handful of MHs and only a couple Mediums so I figured I would add another Medium to the team.  I just dont know what I am going to use it for yet. Any suggestions?

I would use it for jerkbaits and maybe buzzbaits and plugs.

Squarebills and lipless crankbaits

Lots of options.   Can never go wrong.

Edit: unless you want to throw 5oz swimbaits on it.

Anything with trebles. I would use the 7' as a cranker for sure. The 6'6" could be a topwater or jerkbait or lipless rod.

I use my original Ardent and 6'6" M/F Extreme with spinnerbaits.  Have a 6'6" Vendetta M/F and a 7' M/ModerateFast, that  I have thrown squarebills and some topwaters on...  The Extremes have a bit more backbone than the Vendettas.  Im thinkin maybe I will go with weightless plastics and spooks interchangably.  And if I go down to Table Rock this spring I may throw a Jerkbait on it.  Still undecided though. Thanks for suggestions, Would love to hear any more if anyone has some more.

The 6'6" / 7' MF and MHF rods make good all-around rods.  Don't see why you can't use anything within its weight range.  Don't lock down the reel's drag with treble hook lures and you should be fine with them.  Use jigs with lighter wire hooks, and keep them reasonably sharp.  Buy an extra spool.  Keep braid on one and your favorite mono, copolymer or fluorocarbon on the other.  Let's see some pics of hogs caught on your new combo.  :teeth:

Spinnerbait, Topwater, T-Rigs, Jerkbaits.

One of the least expensive rods I own that I like is a 6'6" M-F Vendetta, it is an all purpose rod I got that I could take in the jon boat and not worry about breaking. I also needed something that I could use for a few different techniques as I don't have the same amount of room like the big boat. I use it for smaller spinnerbaits, topwaters and jerkbaits and sometimes smaller 1/4oz super spots. They also make great rods for flukes.

That was my Spook rod until just recently.  Great for minnow (jerk) baits, too.

Sounds like a good jerkbait rod and/or weightless fluke rod.

I have a 6'10" Fenwick elite tech Medium/Fast.  I use it more as a weightless fluke rod, but It is an awesome finesse rod too.  it can load up 6-7" weightless worm pretty well.
