Questions About A Rod..

Featured Replies

I've just purchased my first bc combo recently. I got the bps pq 7.1:1 reel and a shimano sellus worm and jig (mainly all I use) rod 6'8". I know this is a cheaper rod but it's all I could afford at the time. Just wondering if this was a decent choice for someone who's just starting out collecting and building his arsenal. I've used the rod a few times since I purchased it around Christmas time and it felt really good but then again I've never used a really nice rod so I wouldn't know what to compare it to. Just wanted to know if this was a good rod at all?

I'm one to say that you should get the best you can afford and what you have will work just great. What you have is a solid set up, no frills just very good function. There is nothing wrong with your combo, so go enjoy it and get some big ones!!!

Yep. Good combo.

Get proficient with it; save your pennies and dimes; and read about other rods so you can upgrade on your next purchase.

Have many fun times and great memories with that rod.

And never, never, never throw it or give it away other than to your son.

It is something that you will find one day among your other 50 rods and it will bring a warm smile to your face and some good memories.

From what I've heard those are both solid pieces of equipment. You can't go wrong with that combo.

Buddy of mine uses the same rod for worms and finesse jigs. It does what he needs it to do.

Yes it's a good start.  The PQ is a good reel to learn on, on top of that the PQ is a solid reel that it has no problem still being part of your future rotation.  I still use mine regularly with my higher end reels.  I also own a Sellus CB rod and still in my rotation.

I'm just glad this was not a baseball question!

OH DOH, he's commonly known to us Seattle Mariners fans as sellout or P"A"y Rod...I should've caught on!

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm very excited about starting up my collection and I appreciate the feedback. Next in line for purchase I was thinking a abu revo s 6.4:1 on either a mojo bass or *** black for cranking. I mainly crank shallow to medium.

There isn't any rods in the *** line designed for cranking but you can use just a medium power rod but they still seem a bit fast for cranking.
