Casting Distance

Featured Replies

My brother just ordered a Lews BB2 Pro Wide Spool from TW. It is his first Lews and he was a little nervous as he has always used upper end Revos and Shimano. Well, we have had it out a two or three times (old football field) just to see how it might preform. He purchased it for crankbaits from about 1/oz. to 1oz.. Well this thing really surprised me. It threw much farther than the other reels on the same rod with the same weights as mentioned before. Anyone ever used this reel, opinions on it, or Lews in general?

Any comments would be appreciated.

What reels were you comparing it against and what were the brakes set on?

The reels we were using was a 1yr. old Revo Primier and a Core 100. Not sure of his brake settings though. Line was 12lb. Yozuri.

There are still variables. Primarily, reel setup and adjustment. To compare reels all three need to be cleaned, lubed and setup the same. The Premier and Core I believe have lighter, shallower spools which will carry less inertia and as a result have slightly less max casting distance. Conversely they will start easier and cast lighter baits. Max distance is way over rated when in comes to putting fish in the boat. Accuracy rules the day. I use the golf analogy of Drive for Show & Putt for Dough.

For what it's worth I would take a lews over any of the "higher end" revis or shimanos. Lews makes an exceptional reel and they are high end also.

You know Lews and Revos are built in the same factory right? Feature for feature the Lews are usually a little less expensive.

You just ruined his whole way of thinking,Mike.

Surprise !!

A corvette is faster than A Italian wearing red...........Money does not win out in everything.

Not just his. If Capt Bob were around lately he'd beat me about the head and shoulders for this. lol

Yeah I'd imagine that a BB2 Wide would out-perform 100-size reels with weights near 1 oz. Then again, I wouldn't be using the Revo Premier or the Core 100 for cranks between 1/2 and 1 oz. Lews makes fine reels; I've considered a BB2 myself for throwing 1 oz. topwaters and 7" Slammers.

Sounds like you're both happy with the purchase and looks like he bought the proper reel for the job now, eh?
