Odd Spooling Pattern

Featured Replies

So spooling up my reel I noticed I'm not getting a nice even spool it's done this for years but after seeing some nice uniform spools in picks it made me wonder. I use a rag to create good tension when spooling also.

It's fine....

as long as your line isn't spooling more on the top or the bottom you'll be good.

That is interesting. Did that spool come with that reel? It almost looks as though the spool is wider than the distance of reel oscillation cycle. Notice on the backside of the spool how it bunches up in one spot but at the back of the spool is low? It is as though the reel oscillation cycle is not reaching all the way back to the back of the spool.

Maybe shims?

bad distance in casting or wind knots are the only reason for concern. Otherwise ignore it. A lot or reels have weird patterns, especially with braid

Spool came with the reel it's a shims no quick button release spool so there's no shims it appears the reel just doesn't spool it all the way to te front and back

Too much tension at times may cause this?

EDIT; Yes braid needs to be spooled tight, but too tight will affect the complete oscillation. Putting tension above the second guide up will help with this. But yours is not real bad.

Add one shim under the spool, and the issue should be resolved.
