Me and my friend are going down the first week of April.

 

Can anyone give me some insight on what lures or tactics will be key?

 

im not asking for your secret spot or anything. we are fishing a tournament. we just want to have as much fun as we can.

What area are you fishing by chance?  D-bomb's are usually highly effective out there.  Of course the A-rig but I'm not a fan.  

When you get a little closer, google "Guntersville Bass fishing reports."  There is usually some great information on there.

We are staying near goose pond. but we can drive and put in where ever

Goose Pond has been awesome over the years.  Gets a lot of pressure though.  Love that area.  Honeycomb and Town Creek are some others I have fished in the past and really like.

Do you throw these around growing grass in the shallows, around rip rap, or what?

Every where, especially on the inside and outside grass edges on the ledges.
