Featured Replies

I have a chance to buy a 6' Legend Elite Medium power, fast action, casting rod for a good price. What would you guys use this rod for? I dont wanna buy a rod just because its a good price and not use it.

Topwaters, jerkbaits, light t-rigs, maybe small spinnerbaits.

Would the rod be stout enough for topwaters and jerks? I was mainly thinkin it would be a weightless plastic setup, but if thats all it is Ill stick with my spinning gear for that. I didnt know if the rod could be used for finesse jigs or anything of the likeness...

For bass, jerkbaits. I would put a BFS reel on it and use it for crappie and bluegill.

Im not much in the way of fishing for panfish, more of a by catch of the occasional crappie. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Make it a dedicated senko rod.

St Croix's medium is pretty powerful compared to other brands. Power wise, it would be good for topwater, but its too short for my preference.

I prefer the shorter rods for topwater and jerkbaits. I think st croix medium fast is a good taper and power for those baits as well yet stout enough to be used for spinnerbaits and senkos.

4" senko = .245oz, roughly 1/4 oz

5" senko = .350oz, roughly 1/3 oz

That doesn't include the hook. Be wary of your lure ratings, if you go that route.

A St Croix medium is not stout, but it's usually a little more powerful than a typical medium. I think you could throw small popper or spooks, small jerkbaits, 1/4oz spinnerbaits, 1/4oz jigs, weightless plastics, etc. I don't know how well it will set the hook on weightless plastics though. I prefer a longer, slightly stiffer rod, because you need to pick up some line and have enough backbone to get the hook to pierce the plastic; I am sure it would be sufficient, especially with light wire hooks. It's a pretty versatile little rod, given the length.

Thanks for the suggestions and opinions guy . I think I'll give the rod a go and if I don't like it I can move it along to the next perso .
