Would it be effective to use both of these? My plan was to use Fuji Microguides and spiral wrap my next SC5. I have also thought of using the microwave guides also, but haven't seen or heard of a lot of people using them on baitcasting rods? Any imput? Thanks

So you would use the BLAG4 guides before you would use the Microwave ones?

The short answer is YES!! The longer answer is, make sure you have the correct sizing and the cone of flight is proper. So many people build a micro guide acid/spiral wrap and but doesnt realize the guide train. If your line touches your blank, you don't have it down right. Best is to tape the guides on and then put a reel with line on, deflect the blank with the line and see where your line ends up!!

Never played with the microwave casting. Just built a test rod with the spinning ones.

There is difference between "Micro" guides and "Microwave Guide System". I'm sold on the Microwave setup for spinning rods, but I find it hard to see the advantage to the casting set. When it comes to "Micro" guides, I don't even use the term if I can help it. I use the smallest, lightest guide that will pass my connections and hold up to the strain. Combining light weight guides and a spiral wrap, makes a great bass rod. On a casting rod, the eye of the level-wind line guide can be looked at your first guide. There's no need to go larger in most cases. On a slow action rod with a foregrip a larger (higher) guide may be needed to keep the line from hitting your hand. Experiment, that's what makes it custom. There are a lot of variations on the Spiral wrap. I mount a reel and install the tip top at 180* and a stripper guide 20" +/- ahead of the reel and run the line through the tip. I'll put a transition guide near 90* where the line crosses the blank then static test for running guide placement.

Not to hijack the thread but that method sounds like an excellent way of getting your starting point for your guides DVT!! I'm going to use that neXT casting rod I build!

This is all I use on my bass rods. It is absolutely fantastic when it comes to weight reduction but still being able to pull fish in. I have had the most luck using the PacBay Minima 4 guides in size 3 and 4 as runners.
