Any Experience With Metanium Xg?

Featured Replies

Thinking about picking one up for my new jig rod I have being built right now. Just wondering if any of you have or currently use the XG model? How do you like it?

And its gonna be for 3/4-1 oz jigs on ledges, not flippin or heavy cover.

Got one and love it so far. Light weight, smooth, and love the 8.5:1 for flippin a jig.

The 8.5:1 gear ratio is the main reason I'm wanting it. So I can pick up the slack line quick when my jig is in 25' of water.

What are you using yours for?

Smooth, fast, light, comfortable, powerful. My favorite reel.

Currently using one for pitching up to 3/8oz jigs but it can do so much more.

I love it as well. Usually use it for jigs, but I've used it for burning jighead+grubs for spawning walleyes, shallow cranks, and the occasional carolina rig. Like the longer handle better than the other Metaniums.

Whatever you use it for, it will perform unbelievably well. I use them for bottom contact plastics and it's the best I have ever used. Own most every reel Shimano makes, and the Met XG is my choice for this application.

Believe me  :eyebrows:

its my primary jig reel. Like everyone else says its fantastic. On one of the JDM sites its also $283 new. I may get another.

I just picked up a like new for $240...at that price, I had to give if a shot regardless of if i needed it

Mine is on one of my dedicated jig rods.  It is paired with a GLX 854.  I use it for casting jigs in all depths of water.  I am getting another one, but it will be the new DC they are supposed to be releasing next month(JDM)

I have two of them. One I use for frogs & the other for jigs & plastic swim bait paddle tails.

I'm in the same boat. This will likely be my next reel as well. The right handed version is releasing on February 10th. Don't know how long before they're in stock everywhere though. Lefties have to wait until April.

I have a XG and like it. But one thing I really curious is why there are so many metaniums on the market.

Last year I picked up an LH Metanium Hg.

It's spiffier looking than a Core, but otherwise very similar in performance.

I use the Metanium for yanking soft swimbaits through dense pads and emergent grass,

but even with its fast 7.4 ratio, it has the power to bull thru the obstacle course.

Love it for football jigs. Helps when fishing 40+ feet in these Cali reservoirs
