Saros Fa Vs Stradic Fj

Recommended Posts

Has anyone owned either or both in the 1000 size? They both have very similar features, saltwater safe and Graphite frame. The saros has that fancy xgt4 stuff and the stradic...? The stradic is about $20 more.

Any other 1000 size reels I should look at in the $130-150 range?

Stradic has aluminum frame, with graphite body cover. Feels smoother and more refined, but it's not a night and day difference.

I think the FJ is the best spinning reel under $200, easily.

The 2500 and up are aluminum but the 1000 is advertised with a Graphite frame. Not that it's a huge deal to me but with a retail price of what it is, I would prefer a metal frame.

I've owned a 30 size pflueger supreme XT and a 2500fj and hands down prefer the stradic even with the weight difference and white color. The previous model saros was pretty sweet and this new one has even more features.

I think that you wont go wrong with either of the two, but the stradic looks and feels a little more refined. I own both, I cant speak for the durability of the saros yet, I can definitely say that the stradics Ive owned since 2003 have held up over time. Also, because of their popularity with the inshore crowd, the parts for the stradics of old are still available through my local shop.

The differences are main gear materials and bails. The stradic fj's main gear is made of duralumin. The stradic fj also has a one-piece bail.

The saros has a compact design. If you have large hands it might hurt your knuckles.

I like both. Performance wise I cannot tell any difference.

I'd say - buy the best you can afford.  If you can afford the FJ do it.  I love my FJ1000.  I don't have experience with the Saros though.  Symetre yes and I love the older versions.

Fj > fa ... The end

No wai!

Do you have any reason why the fj is greater than the fa?

I may also increase my budget some and look into the ci4 stradic. Specifically the micro line. The fjs are at about $140 and the ci4 $220. Worth the extra 80?

the stradic ci4 1000 is just lighter. If i use shorter rod i'd go with ci4 for balance purpose. all three are good reels. you cannot go wrong with shimano.
