What are some of your ideas for hanging up fishing rods in a room besides buying wall mounted racks? Any ideas and tips greatly appreciated!

Had I to do it over again I'd buy what RW posted or something similar, very compact.  I hung mine in my garage using a horizontal 1x4 with hooks, not really the best set up I could have done.

Are there similar racks that hold more rods? 

As RW linked to - there are the round racks (see the note below about the difficulty in getting full capacity if you have reels mounted on the rods). Then, there are the straight floor racks but these do take up a bit more wall space.  There are corner racks in several styles.  You have lots of options - check out BPS, Cabelas, etc. and search on rod racks and you will see lots of options.

Sure - this BPS one holds 24 RODS....but keep in mind that if you have REELS attached to the rods...it is difficult to get full capacity.  Even if you alternate spinning and casting rigs, you will usually have to leave some empty positions to have clearance for the reels.

That kind of sucks as I leave reels mounted.  Who wants to thread line every time they go out?  Not me.  Missed a guide once and now the blank has a nice groove in the finish.  12# mono at that.  Hate to see what braid would have done.

That rod holder costs $30.   For $30 you can buy a bunch of plastic pipe and fittings and glue and make a much more WTR (white trash repair) version of the same thing.   It would be uglier and home made looking.  Sniffing the glue while you are cutting and fitting plastic pipe can be entertaining.  Or work in a ventilated area and have a few beers while you are playing with grown up tinker toys - your choice.

 

Me - in my fishing shed - I like the white trash rigged look and I go out of my way to achieve it in my rod holders and shelving.  If you are doing it indoors where people are going to see it, the $30 for a decent looking rod rack looks better and better.

Home-made racks?  Sure. This one cost about $10-$12 bucks. Whatever 2 pieces of 1" x 6" x 6' pine cost me at Lowe's.  I had some 2x3 stock for the feet, the screws, and the walnut stain left-over from other projects. The casters came with a plastic storage container the wife bought and she didn't want to use the wheels.

Well in my garage my rods are sitting on 4 inch nails with a little angle to the nails so the don't roll off.  One nail half way of the rod and one for the but. Best rod racks ive ever owned.   Maybe not the prettiest but they hold up forever, do the job, and is super cheap.

I like the foam block styled ones, and they fit rods with the reels in place.

I'm cheap. I took some spent 12G 3" shells waiting to be reloaded and put them on a small piece of wood(spacer from ceiling) and attached them with screws. I have maybe all of 30c in it. Got the idea out of a fishing magazine. Have them hanging right above the boat. Just have to switch them out when spring gets here.
