Would There Be Any Sensitivity Issues...

Featured Replies

Probably a dumb question, but would there be any sensitivity issues if I went with a mono line (thinking McCoy Mean Green) for leader material connected to braid? I am guessing as long as I have a semi-tight or tight line, I should not see a difference as compared to straight braid? I am planning on trying HI-vis braid (yellow) this upcoming season and want to use a leader. Would prefer using mono and not fluoro because of cost and especially if there would be no adverse affects to sensitivity.

Will there be a difference??? Yes. will you be able to tell the difference??? um, maybe... it depends on how long of a leader, and how heavy the jig or lure is, as well as how well your hands are at relaying vibrations to your brain. only one way to find out for sure though...

You can get Red Label for $2 more than Mccoy, not really expensive. You would have a lot of line to use as a leader too.

I use red label all the time. Pulled about a two pound smallmouth out of a SERIOUS laydown yesterday with 15# Seaguar red label as a leader on braid. It's as good as it gets for the cheaper fluoro.

If all you want is leaders for your braid, bit the bullet and buy fluorocarbon leader material.  It is much more abrasion resistant than regular fluorocarbon, i.e. is is what that stuff was made for.  A 30 years spool has lasted me several years and I'm not nearly through with it yet.  There is a little bit of a learning curve to tying knots with it, because it is stiffer and more springy than regular fluorocarbon, but it isn't that hard.

McCoy Mean Green is a copoly, a pretty well thought of line too. Brian.

Red label is good line.

For leaders less than 5' long, I doubt you'd be able to tell a difference in sensitivity versus fluoro.  But would fluoro be more sensitive?  yes.

I dig mccoy line.  That being said I never fish braid with a leader.  It's either all braid or all mono/co/fluoro.
