I assume you are talking about the Supreme XT right? Also, baitcasting or spinning reel? The Supreme MGX spinning reel is very nice, as I have a 8230 model that I have used a few times and it is extremely smooth.

yes, spinning reel. The "new" Supreme, and the MGX. both are $99. I am trying to decide between the 2 and can't see a difference.

If I were you, I would go with the MGX. The only thing that sticks out to me between the two reels is the drag. The MGX has a XTX drag while the new Supreme has a oiled felt drag. The MGX drag for the 8230 is around 8-9 pounds and is really smooth. I have tried pulling line out of it and there is no "bumps" or "disturbances" in the drag pressure.

I want to grab one myself when they come in but I'm talking about the Supreme. The drag is why I'm choosing it because I don't know what the XTX drag system means but the new Supreme has a sealed drag and I look for a sealed drag, that keeps water out of it and keeps it functioning smoothly. I don't think you can go wrong with either but the sealed drag has me liking that model.

Thanks. I have two of The Supremes. And really like them both. They both came with an extra spool and it looks like this one does not. But the MGX does come with an extra spool. I wonder if the ones that I have for the two Supremes that I have would fit the new supreme?

I wouldn't chance on it. Honestly, companies make slight changes to reels that alter the shape slightly, and the spools can no longer be interchanged between reels anymore. Anyways, why do you want to switch spools?

Because it's nice to be able to choose between braid and another line depending on how and where I'm fishing that day and only have to switch out spools. Makes it very easy and saves line

I have 8225, 8230 and 8235, my most used reels for bass.  Been using these reels for years and years, not a thing wrong with the felt drag.  They do come with 2 spools.  Fishing 7 days a week year round these reels have been used a lot.  In fairness my 8230 needed a repair after about 5 years of use, this reel gets used every single day, I replaced it with a a new one.

 

I was using the 8235 for saltwater, moved it to freshwater after about 18 months, bearings are not anti corrosive, had no problems but didn't want to press my luck.

The new supreme is magnesium like the MGX, I'm guessing that instead of making an XT, a regular, and an MGX they would just make the regular one a magnesium and drop the mgx name and still make the XT for those that want an aluminum body. The really nice thing is the sealed drag, the old river rats around me use to call Shimano spinning reels, "Shimbindo" because they didn't have a sealed drag and if you were wading or fishing in the rain and the reel got a little wet, it would bind up to the point it became unusable until it dried out and this was on Stradic reels. Since that time Shimano has fixed the problem but because of that I now look for a sealed drag and the new Supreme has it which is part of the reason it is saltwater safe.

XT is a magnesium frame and aluminum side plates same as the new Supreme and Supreme MGX.   The XT uses an upgraded drag system, titanium main shaft and uses carbon fiber in the handle design. 

 

I believe the new Supreme is mostly cosmetic upgrades to the previous version MGX, the reason for the same pricing.
