I see all over: improved clinch, double clinch, yadda yadda. I use palomar for braid line, but anyone else still use a standard clinch knot for mono and flourocarbon?

All I use is standard clinch for hooks & jig heads, fresh & salt.

Crankbaits, jerkbaits, spinners? I'm still learning the finer points.

I'm not sure what the standard clinch knot is. I use the one I was taught 22+ years ago by my dad. Through the hook eye and back up,twist hook 5/6x,tag back through the loop above the hook eye,tag through the new loop you just made,slober on it and pull tight.

Pretty sure that's an inproved clinch. I actually taught myself the standard clinch when I was 7. Didn't realize it until I was learning fishing knots 23 years later.

I think it is the improved. I still use it on certain things. The Uni and Palomar get the most use though.

Standard is your knot but don't pull the tag through the new loop...

I haven't used that one in a looooong time but it is what I started with 45 yrs ago.  I rarely even tie the double (Trilene Knot?) anymore, use Palomar 99% of time.  Where I cannot use Palomar I do use the double clinch.

I used the Palomar for everything the last two years. First time I tied a Trilene knot I had a 4-5 pound smallie untie it at the boat. Literally, first time I cast a lure with a Trilene knot. I've just been trying different knots during my breaks from watching the snow build up and seems like the clinch is about as strong as any and quicker and easier to tie.

It is the knot my father taught me to tie almost 62 years ago.  Used it for a good many years, but as I got older I tried a few different knots.  Not because any failed, but because I wanted to try something different.  Just like with lines.  Probably used XL for 30 years or so before trying other lines.....just to try other lines. 

I use the improved clinch on everything. I've had palomars break on fluoro and I've never had an improved clinch fail me yet.

Lost a smallie about 5 yrs ago to a Trilene knot.  First and only time I can recall that happening.  Lost a pig LM 2 yrs ago to a Palomar that broke on her first surge.  I am to blame, not the knot.  I know both knots to be capable, wasn't their fault.

I understand capability, but confidence is my biggest issue.

I use the improved clinch knot for everything except when tying on a drop shot hook , that's the only time I use a Palomar knot . To join lines , a uni to uni knot or an Albright knot .

My Dad taught me a modified clinch knot years ago, which is just a standard clinch but with a half-hitch tied in the tag end and snugged up against the wraps (insurance to prevent the tag from slipping through).  That version is virtually fail proof, but I don't trust a standard clinch without the added half hitch or, better yet, with the tag run back through to make an improved clinch knot.

Exactly how I learned the knot, my dad.  Over the years I've only added a few different knots, the only big deal I make is tying them correctly.  At least any of the knots I use when tied properly I have 100% confidence.  Fish enough and a poorly tied knot is going to get past ya everyone once in a while, that's the human factor.

I only trust the improved clinch and p-knot. They cover everything well.

The improved clinch knot is such a basic knot but is very strong , I use for braid , flourocarbon and mono ( copolymer lines) ..

Nope, I use the San Diego jam on my flouro leaders.
