Looking for a medium-light action, 7'+ spinning rod for a specific float technique I use for suspended smallmouths. Checked out these Shock rods online and they kind of impressed me. I even found a video from an informational iCast seminar on this rod. Has anyone had any experience with these Berkley rods? Thoughts.....comments. Thanks guys.

I have one I just put a bait caster on. For a rod sold at Walmart and in the $39 range. It's amazing nice quality an finish action is great. They can't be beat for the cost

If I may make another suggestion, the Fenwick Silverhawk that Cabelas sells for $59.99 (when on sale) is a fantastic 7' MLf rod.  I use it for Spybaits and small plastics for Smallies up here.

I have the 7' MH casting and 7' M spinning Shock rods. They have been my main rods since 2014. They are plenty strong and although not the lightest, they balance very well with my reels. I think that they would work well with your float technique. I'd say go for it!

I would really like to find an 8 footer, but in my price range, the 7'6" ML is about the best that I could find. I can get the Shock at Dick's for only $37.00. That's a far cry from $60.00 for the Fenwick. Reason for needing the extra length is so I can "lift" the braided slack off the surface of the water quicker with a longer rod. And since I'm using a slip bobber, the longer rod would have a decided advantage over shorter rods. 

They are leaps and bounds nicer then other rods that are $40. They are very durable, only thing I don't like is they could use another eye. For what you want it for it would be just as good as any other rod.

I have one I bought last year. I like it so far but it has not seen the use that my more expensive rods have. At that price point it is hard to go wrong.

I bought a 7ft MH last season for flipping jigs.  I was looking for something in a pinch and was extremely surprised with the rod.  As mentioned previously, not the lightest rod, but for the price I think it blows others out of the water.  I picked mine up at a local Walmart for $25.

 

I'm a budget fisherman, as many of us are.  This rod is perfect for a budget fishing scenario.
