  1. Those old reels were great. I have one retired on the wall, the BBINGH, that was a favorite of mine for years. Never gave me a bit of problem. Mine is a Shimano, but I also had a Ryobi at one time.
  2. The Whopper Plopper looks like an old lure Named "Mud Puppy" from the 1920's or so that lure collectors should be familiar with. I have never fished one, only seen pictures. Don't know if the original one floated or not. Hard to get a patent on something that's been around that long
  3. I have used Quantum reels in the past. I bought my son a Smoke spinning reel a few years ago and he is completely happy with it (and he can be very critical). I own a Quantum spinning reel that I occasionally use, although I prefer my Shimanos. That should be no surprise since I paid more for the Shimanos. My experience with Quantum has been mixed. Not a big fan of the KVD series baitcasters but for the money I liked the old Iron series reels when they first came out. Have not tried any of those in the last 10 years. I generally prefer to spend my money on Shimano or Lew's as those brands seem to perform consistently and hold up well. YMMV
  4. Yeah, keep the tradition. (I'm in Virginia and a senior citizen) How many Virginians does it take to change a light bulb? Four. One to change it and three to stand around and say how much better the old bulb was.
  5. I know that when I lived on the oceanfront the saltwater tackle places all stocked very large lipless baits (traps) swimbaits DD crankbaits large jerkbaits and spoons. If it swims or moves fish will try to eat it.
  6. Now THAT was the kind of information and attention that keeps me coming back to this site. Well done, Sam
  7. I have a tournament pro and a bb1 pro. The bb1 pro has a larger footprint but I learned on Abu Garcia round reels so that is not an issue. I feel like the bb1 pro casts further. I like it, but I like the tournament pro better.
  8. I use both Plano and Flambeau in the slim profile series (3701) so that I can cram more variety into one bag. I have a fer that I will fish with someone who is slaying the fish on a bait that I have but left at home. Neurotic, I guess
  9. When I receive a gift card for BPS or a similar store I use it to buy things I need but am reluctant to buy myself.... Tackle storage boxes, storage chests, weights, hooks, waders..... stuff that I need but don't necessarily want to spend MY money on.
  10. +1 for the Jitterbug. Caught my PB 2 years ago on one. Also Devils Horse, Tiny Torpedo, and Helbender (on gravel beds for Smallmouth)
  11. Having moved from the coast of Virginia to the mountains, opportunities to fish for trout are at least twice those for bass. The good news is that here there are also smallmouth,
  12. If we're looking at $100 for a reel, look at Pflueger Supreme or the Supreme XT. Both good solid reels with good performance and factory support. I own Shimano and Pflueger, and like both, but my impression is that you get more for the dollar with Pflueger.
  13. I learned to fish as a boy using cheap Zebco reels, then "graduated" to spinning reels in the late '60's. In the '80's I bought my first bait casting reel and now prefer them as being less tiring to use and more accurate (for me, at least). I reel left with spinning and right with baitcasting. My son uses left hand reels because he started with spinning reels. Understand, he is left handed and uses left hand spinning reels. I bought him a reel with the handle on the right, but he prefers to switch when spinning. Whatever you like and works for you......
  14. That would be "Joe Kidd"
  15. Movies: 1. Unforgiven a true triumph, and loaded with talented actors 2. Big Jake (close second) 3. The Outlaw Josie Wales (no slow moments) 4. True Grit (liked both versions equally well) Television: Maverick a completely different and unique western series Wagon Train and Rawhide both played well when I was young, not so much when I see them today
