Shimano Crucial Spinning Rod

Featured Replies

I noticed on TW that they have the old version crucial spinning rod on sale for like $80. I'm kind of in the market for a new shakey head rod. The one they have is a 6'10"m. I'm just wondering if these are good rods and if that model would be good for shakey heads.

They are very stiff all the way through the tip in the XF. Mountains of backbone though. I wasn't a fan of how much the EVA deformed in my hand during a big fight though fwiw. Good rod but not great IMO. Still def worth 80 though!

I should state that the rod has a fast tip.

I don't see why not.  Most shaky head rods should be stiff all the way up until the last 3-4 inches of the rod.   Jerkbait rods seem to do almost the same thing, with the rod usually being fast with a soft tip.

Isn't that the definition of an XF?

You can have an XF Action with a soft tip. I have a Crucial DS Rod MH/Ext. Fast and the tip is very soft. Brian.

I just pulled the plug on one of these.  I needed a shaky head rod aswell.  It says fast tip and it better be lol.  I own three crucial jig rods and love them.
