Today's trend is to have multipurpose rods. Is the blank the same or different? Looking for a 7'3" rod for both. I was thinking a blank with a top end at 1.5 oz. It would not need to go less than .5 but have enough tip to work a frog. Any thoughts.

A 7'3" H blank with a weight of or less than 1.5 oz would be hard to find. I'm not sure one exists. However the NFC IM 739 would be a good choice. It weighs 2.94 oz. I'd look at Phenix K2 if you were wanting something lighter.

Ideally, a frog rod has some tip and will cast well, and a punch rod will be all power with a Mod-fast action. For dual use, I get a good frog rod and limit the punching to whatever weight it can handle.

Keep in mind that you can always cut a few inches off the butt end of a blank without effecting the power too much.

I was talking lure weight on the 1.5. Most of the blank weights were right around 3oz area. I have a lami excel that I like a lot for frogs but the handle and guides suck. Its the 7'3" 5 power rod. I was also looking at the hmx frog and slop blanks. Trving to do some research DVT for the next project.

I used a 7'3" H *** Black last summer to do all of my pitching, punching, and most of my frogging. Worked fine. If you want to get really specific, I'm sure you could split that into 3 different rods with a 4th for flipping (which I rarely if ever do).

It's all a cost benefit analysis. How much are you willing to spend for what quality and specificity? Is it ok to have 1 rod for all your heavy work? Yup. Can you split that up? Yup. But only you can look at your finances, requirements, and wants and figure out what you should do.

Haha I'm guessing you meant lure weight rating. My mistake. I was looking at blank weights right before I saw your post.
