Difference Between Metanium Dc And Non Dc?

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone knows of any other differences other than the DC on the Metanium.  I have a non DC JDM and want another.  Im currently debating the DC vs non DC and cant find any differences other than that.  Was curious if anyone knows of any other differences.

Thanks!

The DC braking system is the main thing, probably worth the extra $. It is also a different color (looks a little better IMO) and has different knobs, the same open ended type found on the Calcutta conquest. That's about all I know.

Braking, knobs on handles and different color cast control knob/level wind guide. The non DC has gold accents, the DC is all silver.

Thanks Guys, I dont think I have a need for the DC, not for 140.00 more than just the regular Met.  I'm quite happy with the current knobs, handles and SVS.

I gotta admit I do like the knobs on the standard met more than the DC/Conquest knobs. Those Septon power grips are just so comfortable.

The different color accents identify the different ratios. The only difference between the DC and non DC is the braking system, spool, and handle side plate. Everything else is the same.

Didn't even think about that.  My non DC is XG and my DC's are HG.  Thanks for the clarification!

Just for your info $270.40 JDM for 2013 Met & $369.60 JDM for 2015 Met DC at JLS

Does DC really make that m7ch of a differance in casting distance and preventing backlashes if your experienced in using a non DC baitcaster?

For me the dc reels help the most when I am flinging a bait for distance. They also aid casting into the wind. If you are casting for accuracy with controlled arm movement they allow you cast without using any thumbing. Best part of using one is the whirling noise that accompanies every cast.

After the 4x8 DC system of the Calais DC, all the new DC iterations were designed for maximum backlash control so the differences in distance won't be real significant. We will just have to let some of the new MET DC owners give their review s on the cast distance.

So let me ask you DC guys, Im planning on putting this on an NRX and using it for plastics and light jigs.  Does the DC braking system benefit me in anyway for this style of fishing?

DC spools are NOT meant for light lures. they help with heavier stuff, but with lighter stuff, its not worth it.

Thank you sir!

What's light for you? Lets talk weights. The met DC has an automatic setting and 4 different settings for weight.

Like Strike King Ocho's wacky rigged, 1/4 - 3/8 oz jigs (really just starting with these)  I toss a lot of the wacky rig

I just noticed that the new Metanium DC has different setting than the Exsence DC, which is the DC reel im used to. I highly doubt it will make any meaningful difference in distance, especially for 1/4oz lures. If you are casting 1/2oz+, then it might be worth it, but at 1/4oz, no.

Shimano has made a DC system for ultralight lures, It was the Cardiff 50DC, made for trout, its not made anymore. Then there is the Conquest 50DC.

You and I must be getting bit by the same monkey...I bought two of the non DC's for 260 and am waiting on my NRX to arrive anyday. I like the color scheme of the old model better, and after the first one got here I had to have another. I would like to get a 3rd but so far have dodged a third bite from the monkey.

I've never used the DC system so I can't comment on that...my thumb should know what it's doing by now.

By the way my NRX is a 7ft 5 H for power fishing....go big or go home right?

Good luck with your purchase.

I don't think that helping someone make a cast is why most people would by a Shimano DC reel. The reason to buy a DC reel is because it's a DC reel. I know how to cast but I don't own a DC reel..........yet. The Conquest 50DC that I odered from JLS 2 days ago should hopefully be here for the weekend and I will finally get to hear the legendary whirling sound that Dwight referenced in an earlier post and that I have read so much about over the years.

Owning 2 DC reels myself, a Calcutta TE DC & a Calais DC, I'll have to admit that I too love that sound! I'm sure the reel you have on the way is going to be sweet, let us know how much you like it when it gets here.

Ok here is the breakdown-Thanks to Goose

Setting 1=18-30 grams which equals .63-1.058 ounces

Setting 2=10-20 grams which equals .35-.705 ounces

Setting 3=8-12 grams which equals .28-.42 ounces

Setting 4=5-8 grams which equals.17-.28 ounces

So bottom line this reel will cast 3/16 oz baits on up thru 1 oz  depending on the setting you chose.  If you don't want to mess with 1-4 settings just set the reel on A for automatic.

Dwight, you're going to talk me into it

I avoided the higher prices bait monkey. Met #2 on the way. Still need one more :/
