im loooking to pick up some topwater walking baits has anyone used the yamomoto pencil tate?

I've been really impressed with the Yo-Zuri 3DB and 3DS baits, I used them last year in late summer right until mid fall when temps got too low. Specifically I started with the 3DB Prop, I have it in prism ghost shad and prism shad, the fish were chocking them when nothing else was even drawing a follow. The 3DS popper is awesome too, a little over 2.5" and only 1/4oz, it has the sound of a popper that cost a lot more. I also like the Zell Pop popper from Xcalibur, if the rumor is true and they do discontinue the brand, look for the Zell pop to be deeply discounted and buy as many as you can, these are excellent poppers. Since you mentioned the Yamamoto Pencil Tate, I'd go and include the Yo-Zuri 3DB Pencil in Ghost Shad, on the water they blend in so well and the bass are trying to swallow them, I've never been so hyped on a series of baits like the 3D series, everything I've tried in that has not only worked but exceeded my expectations.

what about the strike king sexy dawg? I've only used one before and it walked pretty easy its just that if I'm gonna buy10-12 of them ill be mad if they don't turn out to be worth it

Check out the Booyah Badonkadonk.  Great name better action easiest lure to walk ever.  And if I'm not mistaken it's recommended by Bill Dance.  I've only used the saltwater model, it gives the bass a totally different look and sound than a Spook. 

Yes, I've used the Tate Pencil and I really like it. Full disclosure: I haven't caught anything on a spook-style bait. BUT compared to my Heddon Spook I like the Tate better. It's easier to walk, and I really like the holographic sides.

I like to stick with the Heddon Spook, tried and true. I have not tried the Yamamoto spook, but the Strike King Sexy Dawg is great as well. The only other pencil style bait I use regularly other than the Heddon Spook is a Lucky Craft Gunfish.

Being new to walking baits, I'd say for the money and avaliability get a SK sexy dawg jr. or a Super Spook Jr.  Once you get to where you can walk em good and find that cadence, i'd experiment with a Reaction Innovations Vixen as mentioned because it's bigger and flat out catches fish with its unique sound...and then maybe a Lucky Craft Sammie for its unigue tail down/head up in the water...great hook up ratio and walks easily fast.  I still think the super spook jr walks the best for me.

 

TIP:  I always remove any split rings on the line ties, if they come with them and tie a loop knot directly to the line tie....Its a strong knot and it makes any walking bait walk that much better!

Check out the Duo Realis pencil 110. Really great bait & easy to work.

im not new to them just looking for a new brand to try, but about taking off the split ring, instead i leave it on and use a clip and when i walk it i can almost make it do a 360 and keep it in the strike zone longer but thanks

If I were too buy 10-12 lures at a time especially top waters I would diversify my purchase. That's just me. You don't lose top waters a lot. I generaly lose them to trees and poorly tied knots.

I've had good luck with the lc gunfish and spook and the sexy dog and duo pencil or on my list to try. Most of my walkers are some variation of white or bone.

I second the duo bait and the river2sea bubble walker. They have both caught a bunch of fish for me.

Duo realis makes absolutely fantastic baits. I also thoroughly enjoy the sexy dawg jr. Bluegill works best for me
