Buzzbait Leaning

Featured Replies

So the buzzbaits i made from the poisontail mold want to lean to the right as they come in. i put a smaller blade and the problem is fixed. The bait is a 3/8 oz bait and the blade is the standard size 3....which is for 3/8 and 1/2 baits. I dont want the smaller blade, i dont want a heavier buzzbait. i want the bigger blade with the 3/8oz head. the bait tracks true, just the body leans to the right when you look at it coming in. any ideas on how to fix this are greatly appreciated.

ok the smaller blade didnt help. ilast night it looked like it did. just tried it and it still leaned.

Have you put a trailer on it?  Try putting a swimbait on it to act like a keel.

i was using a swimbait as the body. no skirt. i do have an update. i bought a Lews 7.1:1 it is the same gear ration as the last reel just brand new. i made another couple baits and i made one just plain and simple. a bead and a blade and it was the big blade. the water was a little murky but i feel like it was straight. i hope to get to a clearer lake and test them again.

You can tweak the arm to get it to run straighter, but single blade buzzbaits will tend to have a little lean to it.

Post a picture, Your bar/knot location is possibly the culprit.

Also, retrieval speed can be a factor. Think like L Bill shallow crankbaits swimming near the surface and rolled over when retrieved too fast.

A lot of times its really simple solutions to extremely annoying problems

Single blade buzzbaits don't lean (aren't supposed to lean). They simply run the the right a little on retrieve. Make sure your wire is in perfect line with your hook.
