Carrot Stix Rod Balancing Question

Featured Replies

I have an older Carrot Stix (E21) CLTX-691P-C that I lost the buttcap and weight for.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to rebalance this rob without those parts?  The rod is pretty tip heavy as it is right now.  Please let me know any tips on how to get this rod back fishable.

Thanks,

Shawn

Crutch tip and washers.

I would just get something on the back end to grip on and forego the balancing.  Give it a try before dismissing it.  I think adding weight to balance is counterproductive and never add weight to acheive balance.

I'm just happy to hear me and Charlie Moore aren't the only two people in the world that fishes Carrot Stix.

Sorry I did a poor job of explaining what is missing.  Only the black cap that holds the weight inside of the butt cap is missing, not the entire grip itself.  The grip is still on the blank but has no weight in it so the rod is severely tip heavy.

Put weight into it, plug it with a wood filler or bondo, or use a caulk compound.. You might even contact carrotstix or Duckett and get a close if not perfect match.. Where there's a will, there's a way...

Bass Pro used to have a rod balancing setup, still do?  Same thread size?  If you can match the thread size with a fastener, stainless steel screw, then I think you should be able to cobble up a balance setup with a visit to a hardware store, topping it off with a chair leg rubber cover.  Or when you get the proper balance put some shoe goop over the end to provide a compliant butt.  Or epoxy on a rubber bumper from an auto parts store.

Mudhole.com has a balance kit + many removable fly rod fighting butts that might work.
