My First Lake Is Full Of Small Fish

Featured Replies

I fished this lake a ton of times as a teen ager and young man. Even back then, bout all I caught was buck bass. Been fishing the lake several times this year and have caught several bass on most trips and all fish are about 1 pound, same as decades ago. It's about 70 acre lake/pond, flooded timber in upper third of it (which is about 99% rotted away), built probably 1965. Fed by a small creek. In all of the times I fished it, I recall only catching two bass over 5 pounds. I wonder what's up with that. Also, I note that I have never known anyone catch a good mess of white perch (crappie) or even finding a bream bed.

When I buy a bass boat (soon), I am tempted to go there and scope out the creek channel and try to fish that channel. (Been fishing the shallow water lately.) Years ago, though, my buddy and I did fish a worm on that creek and caught a few, but never really slayed them. I guess I was easily entertained back then.

The lake does not get much fishing pressure at all.

Catch and keep some (if that's an option).

If it were me, I'd take my business to another lake.

Like the ole saw: "You can't make a silk purse out of sow's ear"  :wink2:

Throw a live bluegill in the middle of it and continue fishing another rof with a lure ... Whenever I want to see the size of fish in an area i let the bluegill investigate for me
