Hey y'all well today I have off of work and went fishing well I got a new Powell diesel 723 casting rod and on the first cast on this new rod the 3ed guide insert broke and went frying and at the same time the guide bent. So I put the rod down and picked up a different rod and fished. My question is has anyone used the Powell diesel 723 or any of the diesel rods and had the same problem or any other problems?

I have a diesel 765 and have not had any issues with it in the year+ that I have used it.  I also have an endurance 714 that has been great.

Have a shop repair the guide, those rods have no warranty.. Or return it to the shop, if , you bought it new...

Yes I got the rod new from tackle warehouse and I know there is no warranty on them. I called taclkle warehouse and they told me there's nothing they can do..... So now I'm looking for a repair shop to have it fixed

My local shop replaces guides / eyes for about 8 bucks. My guess is it was damaged during shipping. I have 5 Powell rods 3 infernos and 2 diesels and generally average about 3 fishing days per week and I have never had an issue with any of the Powell rods. I even used one of my diesel rods as my frog rod last year and pulled some toads out without a wrinkle one. Find you a local shop, get it fixed and enjoy a quality rod at a bargain price.....net!

Good to know I have stayed away from Powell because of their warranty approach. The owner may be tacking the right approach in trying to make a value call but for a guy like me trying to feel my way back into fishing it sure made me stay away at least for my start up rods.

I had an issue with a poorly secured guide on a diesel rod I purchased online.  Since i hadn't fished it yet they exchanged it for me, but reluctantly.  Since then I'll only buy rods I can hold and look at in-store.  Maybe be overkill, and not an option for you from now on, but it will surely save me hassle in the future.

That's unfortunate that you got a lemon. The one Diesel I had was the older model glass rod with EVA grips. No problems with that rod. I have a Max and an Endurance and they are both great rods. I'm sure the new Max 3D rod is good as well.

Just curious : Did TW ship your rod using a heavy duty cardboard tube - or just a rectangular box ?

Tw ship two rods in a heavy duty cardboard tube. But I'm gonna send it out and have it fixed so I can use it again. I'm going to bass pro today and gonna pick up a new rod maybe even two lol

  Since then I'll only buy rods I can hold and look at in-store. 

 

That's smart money!  Plus you support local business and economy.  I do the same thing with rods.  I have bought some used ones in the past that were shipped to me but I'm not doing that anymore unless I know the person selling them.  I'll only buy new rods locally now.

I've got a Max 3D 723, Inferno 703, and a Diesel 765, not a problem With them so far!

I'm glad to hear that everyone that has Powell rod doesn't have any problems with them. Went to bass pro today and picked a 3 Veritas 2.0 rods. Was gonna go fishing tonight but went out mudding/bonfire with my friends instead

I'm a big fan of the Endurance series. Max was ok but not great. Better out there for the same $. I had a few Diesels and I was less than impressed with them. Pretty darn heavy compared to their other rods. My Lightning rod shock was a better buy. I haven't used the new 3d series. Unless they come way down I price I doubt I will. I feel there are better buys for the $ with those too. I still have 3 Endurance's though and I can't see me getting rid of them unless they break. Let's hope that doesn't happen.

Powells are Kleenex for me. Use, abuse, and throw away.

Had a Deisel and 703.

Didn't care for either of them and designated to my brother in law when he fished with me since he tends to destroy tackle.

Nothing special about them.

I bought into the hype. Good "Starter" rod.

I know this is a minority opinion and sounds harsh. If you love yours, great.

I also bought into the *** 13. Not bad for the money. Cork part of handle grip too short. Another good starter rod.

I have 4 Diesels and zero problems. Great rods. Sorry to hear you had trouble. It's not common with Powell no matter what level rod you buy. Good luck To you.

Thanks yell for all the info . I called Powell and they are sending me all new guides for the whole rod for free. I was taking to the guy at the shop I get my surf and off shore rods from and he's gonna put the on for me for $25 so Powell took care of me because they said it was new and o my used one time

Two weeks ago I broke the tip on a Diesel spinning rod that I bought last summer and only used lightly.  I admit that I was more than partly at fault by stressing it more than I should have on a snag.....however, I have treated other rods far worse in the past without breaking them.
