I guess they were bass, bit like bass. I got two strikes this morning and set the hook and got nothing back but my 1/8 oz jighead. The second Yamasenko was brand new. Rigged weedless Texas-style, how the heck can that be? How could it instantly come off upon hook set?

 

There are jackfish (pickerel) in that lake and I usually catch a couple; I suppose it could have been a jackfish, with their sharp teeth. But even a jackfish, can't figure out how it could just instantly come off. The baits might have been 2-3 years old. I found a package a few days ago in my closet. I wonder if they deteriorate (in the original packaging).

I've had the same expierence with soft plastic swim baits here in Florida. Found it to be large Florida gar. Sucks when that happens!

Sometimes they just don't have it good and you don't get a good hookset, it happens.

And that's why it's called fishing, & not catching..

Lots of things have to occur, fish has to inhale the bait, you have to detect this strike, your timing needs to be correct, the hookset needs to be proper, the hook must rip threw the plastic,

( a sharp, properly sized hook ) that hook must penetrate the fishes mouth, tissuse, etc.. Your knot must hold.. There are variables to everything fishing & catching. Your a new fisherman, remain patient..

What jighead?  Senkos are decently thick so it helps to ensure the hook/jighead has enough gap to get a good hookset.

Has nothing to do with the senko. It's either one of the following;

Small fish grabbing only the end

jig head doesn't proprely hook fish

senkos arent the most durably baits, so if a fish grabs them in a wrong way, or if you rig it a certain way, they get pulled apart easily. sht happens.

lots of good plastics have the durabilty issue...soft and supple rarely means durable
