New Spinning Rell Help!

Featured Replies

i recently bought a St Croix Avid from gander mountain and am wondering what a good reel to match it would be? the rods a 6'6 med fast action spinning rod. i dont want to spend more than about 130-140 dollars. What would be a good reel for it?

Shimano saros. I Bought the first model when it came out years ago and it's still buttery smooth working flawlessly. If you can spring for a little more, the diawa ballistic is a great reel that can be found for around $160-180.

In your range, this is a good recommendation.

The Saros is a nice reel, the Pflueger line is hard to beat on a bang for your buck basis from the President and even Trion and up. I like a 2500 size for bass.

Take the rod and put some reels on it.  See what feels and looks the best.  A factor that is often overlooked is the clearance your hand has when cranking, people with larger hands may not be happy with a smaller reel.  Don't look at max drags, a selling feature that IMO does not enhance performance.  With today's reels it's harder to buy a bad reel than a good one, a freshwater reel should be worry free for quite a few years.

Pfluger supreme xt in the 30 size. Runs about 150$ a while back a bunch of places had it on sale so you might be able to find it for less

The Lews Team Gold Carbon reels are good as well... as stated before, anything in that price range its going to be hard to go wrong.

I have the 3000F Saros . Great reel. If I were in the market today for a spinner however, Pfleuger keeps popping up everywhere I look. I would check those out.

Stradic FJ would make a nice outfit in 2500 or I prefer the handle on the 3000 beter, same frame reel just T handle and same size spool but holds more line,,,,,,, enjoy that rod, it's a dandy!!! :bravo-009:

Only been out a couple of times, but I am liking my Curado 200 I so far.

Saros or Stradic 2500 series depending upon what price you can find them for. Also consider what size line you will use. I mainly fish 8# so the 2500 series is ideal. If I fished a heavier line or needed more line capacity the 3000 would get the nod. The 1000 is more relevant if you fish 4 or 6# line.

I was wondering why everyone on this forum pointed me towards a Curado and did not even mention it in this thread! Thanks Capt George.

The thread is regarding a Spinning Reel choice.
