Shallow Vs Deep In Shallow Water

Featured Replies

The water I fish is 1-5 ft deep. I have had great success with Flukes but really want to get into fishing plastic worms on the bottom. Generally, if the fish are shallow in relation to the water collum, will the fish still go down and get the plastic worm on the bottom? Thanks!

Generally, bass in less than 5 feet of water, unless they are relating closely to cover, are usually on the bottom or very close to it.  Depending on the bass's mood, water temp & clarity, as well as the horizontal speed of an angler's presentation, bass have been know to travel at least 5 feet to strike a bait.

So you could expect some action with any bottom contact presentation in the situation.

Today I was hanging my Reel N' Shad off the side of the boat and struck the lure in 15ft of water and the lure was only about 1 foot deep. It surprised me so much I missed the fish though. I also was reeling my spinnerbait on top of the water real fast like a top water trying to retrieve it to cast where I saw a bass and a bass slapped it in 20 ft.

Keep in mind that bass usually feed up.  A bass that isn't on the bottom would probably be more likely to go up for a bait than down.

A lot more camp. Not nearly as silhouetted.
