I have a 2000 Mercury 115 horse and I got 3 one gallon bottles for a good price. The thing is that it's synthetic and the motor is currently filled with conventional oil. I was under the impression that you should not mix synthetic and conventional oil.

 

 

So, I was going to drain the 2 year old motor oil out and put in the new synthetic. I was told that you should put all new oil in your motor every year. I didn't realize this and haven't done it in my 2 years of owning my boat. I've just been refilling as the oil goes down. It's an oil injected motor, so there is a reservoir that holds the oil and you fill it up and the motor automatically injects it into the motor I guess. It doesn't go through a lot of oil.

 

After not being able to find the drain I started a thread on here and people helped out and said that that kind of motor doesn't have a drain.

 

 

 

 

And why don't they both say "two cycle" or "two stroke", even though they are the same thing. Confusing!

 

 

 

 

So, what do I do to get this old oil out?

And do you change you motor oil out every year just like lower unit oil?

There is no oil to change, no oil to remove. It gets burned up with the fuel and turns into exhaust. Your oil injected engine mixes the oil and fuel and burns it. That's it. No more, no less.

I would use a large hypdermic needle set up from a vet supply. That is without the needle, and use tubing that will reach down to where you need to be. This is what I do for my motor, and also for my lawn mower.

It won't hurt. I do it all the time and my motor is a 94 runs like a champ. 

No need to change the old oil out because there is no old oil in there because it has been injected into the gas and burned.  Unless you haven't run the boat in a long time and the oil has been sitting for a long time.

Yes, it will be fine. The synthetic blend of oil is also a mix. I would recommend the Quicksilver syn blend as your regular oil in the future. jmho.

The motors that need the oil changed every year are 4 stroke engines. They are like a car engine where the oil is not mixed with the gas or burnt, but stays in the engine to lubricate everything. With an oil injected 2 stroke, it's mixing the gas with the oil before it burns the mixture. Your oil tank is basically storing it until it's consumed.
