Theres an 82 degree heat wave in Ct today. The popper bite usually doesn't start until next month, but im wondering if today hot weather will turn that bite on for this evening. Any thoughts? tips?

Central Maryland chiming in.  I've had blowups already but nothing past 15 ft from the bank.  Shallow ponds 2- 3ft max... early march at roughly 45-50 degree water temp. 

 

I still like the spook and buzz bite best though.

If the popper dont work a floating minnow might .

Water temp of 62+ should turn that on. I caught this one on a Pop R last night. Water temp was mid 60's.

No luck guys. Even with the heat today the water was 52, which apparently is too cold for topwater, even for the smallies. :,(

i went out to a local spot in the enfield ct area yesterday and killed it on a pad crasher jr frog. i was pretty surprised they were hitting topwater so aggressively yet so i wouldn't be scared at all to throw a popper at all

Keep trying my friend. Caught yesterday. It was in the 30's overnight less than a week ago.

Theres a large sea wall with a cove thats about 25 yeards wide, and 50 yeards long at the beach of my local lake. I know theres tons of smallies around. Im just going to keep going every night and throw a popper or a spook until I get into something. Trying to catch my first smallie. All the ponds and reservoirs ive been fishing only have large mouth.
